Sara Cable joined the Office of General Counsel in 2022 as the university’s Senior Privacy Attorney. In this role, Sara advises across the university – academics, research, operations, enrollment and beyond – to help principals and users across the enterprise become aware, educated, and up to date about the university’s responsibilities under domestic and international data privacy and security laws.

Prior to joining Northeastern, Sara served for over a decade as an Assistant Attorney General for the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office, where she led the office’s consumer data privacy and security enforcement efforts.  In 2020, she was appointed as the inaugural Chief of the Data Privacy and Security Division.  Sara oversaw a team that investigated hundreds of cybersecurity and consumer data privacy incidents affecting all economic sectors and has represented the Commonwealth on multiple matters before state and federal courts and on numerous national investigations and settlements.  Sara also led several enforcement actions under the Massachusetts Consumer Protection Act involving unfair and deceptive trade practices in the finance and professional services sectors.

Previously, Sara was a litigation associate at a global law firm in Boston, where she represented corporate clients in civil litigation matters featuring unfair trade practice, antitrust, and intellectual property claims. She is a graduate manga cum laude of the University of California, Hastings College of the Law, and earned her B.A. manga cum laude from Harvard College.  She is a member of the bar in Massachusetts and New York.
